Chocolatería San Ginés
Established in 1894
Over 125 years of history
Chocolatería San Ginés located halfway between Puerta del Sol and the Teatro Real, in the heart of Madrid, is one of the oldest chocolate shops in the capital. Founded in 1894, it was known during the Second Republic as "the hidden one" due to its particular location in the San Ginés passageway, an alley away from all the hustle and bustle. Despite being out of sight of passers-by, the chocolate shop gained unprecedented fame and today, it appears in all the city's tourist guides.
During the first decades of the 20th century it was the only chocolate shop open after hours, serving as a home and inspiration for many artists, authors and scholars.
